The JICA Marshall Islands Office commenced a new technical cooperation project titled “Technical Cooperation for Establishment of Asset Management System of Roads, Bridges and Heavy Machinery in Small Islands Developing States (SIDs).”
The project objective is to appropriate asset management systems of Roads, Bridges and Heavy Machinery for the next five years period (2025-2030). Currently, eight consultants have been dispatched to Majuro for a weeklong support to MPWIU/PMU. Three of the team members will be engaging in the non-destructive bridge inspection, which is a long-awaited inspection method needed by the MPWIU/PMU team. The other members will survey the roads, the heavy machinery situation and climate change related issues. The MPWIU team consisting of Chief of Roads & Grounds, Enjan Kiotak along with AAS of Operations Xavier Loeak, AS Jimata Kabua Jr. and PMU Manager James Myazoe II have accompanied the JICA Team along with other employees at the Majuro bridge and various other locations.
The bridge concrete samples will be obtained to be further analyzed in laboratories in Japan. The team will report back on their findings during their second visit around July.
JICA conveyed its gratitude to the MPWIU Management team for their dedication and looks forward to working together for the improvement of asset management in RMI.
