Urban Resilience Project: 6th Implementation Support Mission

From September 15-19, 2025, the URP held its sixth Implementation Support Mission from the World Bank. The mission kicked off with welcome remarks from the new MPWIU Secretary, Walter Myazoe. In his remarks, the Secretary addressed key development targets for URP and highlighted the significant progress of the project.

The mission gathered members from the CIU and PIU teams to discuss key issues and progress including scheduled site visits to the Resilient Multifunctional Government Facility, Eletutu Beach, and Alele Museum. The project has made a positive impact on job creation in the RMI with three of the ongoing civil works contracts awarded to RMI-based contractors. More than half of the individual consultants hired under the project are national-based consultants.

Since the Mid-Term Review in March 2025, there has been significant progress in all components of the project: : (i) contract award and mobilization of the contractor for the RMGF and Eletutu Beach coastal protection activities; (ii) finalization of the technical designs and environmental and social (E&S) instruments, and closing of the tender, for the MIHS works; (iii) finalization of the concept designs for the resilient public spaces; and (iv) completion of planning analysis and community consultations for the Majuro master planning activity. Project commitments total over 61 percent and disbursements are projected to reach 60 percent by July 2026.
