The Ministry of Public Works, Infrastructure & Utilities is dedicated to building and maintaining the essential infrastructure that supports our nation’s growth, resilience, and connectivity.
From the development of roads that link communities to the outer island airport runways that ensure mobility, our work strengthens the foundation of daily life across the Marshall Islands. We construct boat ramps to facilitate safe and efficient maritime travel and commerce, and we build seawalls that protect our islands from rising tides and coastal erosion.
With a strong emphasis on project management, we ensure that infrastructure initiatives are executed effectively, meeting both timelines and quality standards. We also enforce building code compliance to promote safety, sustainability, and structural integrity in every project we oversee.
As stewards of the Marshall Islands’ infrastructure, we are committed to fostering a resilient and connected nation, ensuring that our people have the resources they need to thrive today and into the future.

Operations & Maintenance
The development of transportation infrastructure in the neighboring islands, Majuro, and Ebeye is under the oversight of the Ministry through various airport runway, docks, and roadway rehabilitation works. The use of heavy machinery and technical personnel to achieve infrastructure developments objectives is supported through inter-island travel on the MV Majuro and the LCU 2034, both landing craft type vessels operated by skilled crew members.
The fleet, heavy machinery, vehicles, and operational assets of the Ministry are operated and maintained by experienced and dedicated personnel who are divided into subdivisions according to their specialized technical expertise. Related to the maintenance of the Ministry’s assets, ancillary services are also provided to the RMI Government through construction, repair, surveys, and various maintenance services.
Project Management
Project Management Unit (PMU) led by the PMU Manager, manages and provides support for construction and maintenance projects from the bidding phase to the completion. The PMU employs licensed architects, engineers, and qualified inspectors tasked for quality project delivery including the provision of cost estimates and materials bill of quantities for cost determinations for Compact funded and Non-Compact funded projects.
The PMU Manager plays a vital role in the government’s prioritized infrastructure developments with key involvement in the production of the National Infrastructure Investment Plan (NIIP). The PMU co-ordinates with multiple donor partners to enable project implementation. One such project funded by the World Bank is the Urban Resilience Project housed in the Ministry has progressed steadily within the various components of the project that target key infrastructure and climate resilient developments.
Building Code Compliance
The Building Safety & Regulations division is in charge of building code implementation and compliance.
With the new RMI National Building Code (2021 Edition), we are able to increase construction and building safety standards and practices to the required levels. The BSR team is dedicated to ensuring that all buildings are safe to occupy and meet all requirements including proper egress and accessibility.
