Building capacity opportunity for PMU Inspector
On June 30, 2025 to July 2, 2025, PMU Inspector Dillon Bukida attended a humanitarian assistance training hosted by the International Organization of Immigration (IOM) in coordination with NDMO in Majuro. The training was organized for members of the National Emergency Operating Committee which consists of various clusters who are activated during a national disaster event.
The training was focused on strengthening the collective capacity in humanitarian coordination, needs assessment, sector-based planning, and effective delivery of relief and recovery interventions during emergencies and disasters. It also introduced standard tools/templates, including the newly updated Initial Damage Assessment (IDA) tool both in paper and digital formats.
“During the training, there were several key, valuable skills I gained from this training. There was effective communication, a better understanding of the setup process of an evacuation shelter, and the utilization of the Kobo tool. These different skills and understanding would be used in several situations in my role at work,” Mr. Bukida said.
Essentials of Humanitarian Assistance encompass the fundamental principles, standards, and practices used to respond effectively to crises and disasters. It includes life-saving support such as food, water, shelter, health care, and protection for affected populations. The approach is guided by humanitarian principles—humanity, neutrality, impartiality, and independence—to ensure aid reaches those most in need without discrimination. Coordination and needs assessments are also key components.
