Waves of Change: Advancing Blue Economy Across Asia and the Pacific

From August 26-29, 2025, Assistant Secretary of Building Safety & Regulations, Jimata Kabua Jr. attended the workshop on Advancing Blue Economy Across Asia and the Pacific in Auckland, New Zealand. Mr. Kabua was joined by two other representatives from the Republic of the Marshall Islands, (CCD & MFBPS).

“Attending the Waves of Change Blue Economy Workshop was an enlightening and enriching experience. The event provided a deep dive into the principles and applications of the blue economy, highlighting its critical role in fostering sustainable development and ocean conservation,” said Mr. Kabua.

Oceans and seas have long been vital sources of economic opportunity and sustenance for communities around the globe. Increasing pressure from human activities that often prioritize short term economic gains over environmental sustainability have affected these critical ecosystems. The workshop underscored the vital role of knowledge sharing and inter-subregional collaboration in advancing blue economy which has generated a wealth of insights and practical approaches that inform the design and implementation of sustainable ocean-based economic strategies.
